Golf Glove Terms Glossary BENCH CUT -a leather cutting process
developed in BIOTAN - a tanning process developed by USGlove Co. Inc.(r) to conform to E.P.A. standards eliminating environmentally unfriendly chemicals. The resulting leather is inert to the effects of sweat, sun and weather and can be machine washed and dried. CABRETTA - a generic term used for sheep which have hair instead of wool, resulting in a much closer grain and stronger leather than any other. CAVITY BASED - creating random cavities in the base matrix of a synthetic leather (such as USGlove Co., Inc.'s SYNTAN) to improve the gripping surface and reduce bulk, thereby creating flexibility and softness. COOLMAX- a DuPont (r) fabric made from premium four-channel fibers. As the hand sweats, the fabric channels the moisture to the surface where it evaporates. This unique combination of wicking and evaporating keeps the hand drier and more comfortable ETHIOPIAN SHEEP - a "Hair Sheep" or
Aoudad which lives at high altitudes on the Ethiopian plateau in HIGH FREQUENCY - a term applied to precision logo making in which a combination of heat molding and silk screening can miniaturize artwork too detailed for embroidery. LOCKSTITCH - a sewing technique in which each stitch contains a loop and overthread for a non-raveling flexible seam. MICROFIBER - a miniaturized bit of
polyester which is formed with other bits into a matrix which becomes the
base of synthetic leather. The best micro fibers come from Europe, although POLARTEC- a temperature control fabric invented by Malden Mills made of multi-layered polyester velours which have extreme softness and the unique ability to both insulate and ventilate. SYNTAN - When applied to leather, an artificial tanning agent; but in synthetics, the name coined by USGlove Co., Inc. for the tacky, tough polyurethane-based impregnation which can be varied as to surface gripping pattern and tackiness, which forms the outer layer of synthetic leather. |
